Local businesswoman, Lucille Lee approached then Bishop of Mandeville Paul Boyle in 1998. She offered some land in Maggotty to the Catholic Church if the Bishop would arrange for a church to be built there. Soon after, Father Marek Bzinkowski and Father Andrew Beltowski both Polish missionary priests, arrived and set about converting a shed and goat pen into a temporary chapel and living quarters. They raised funds from all over the world to build a church and rectory. Holy Spirit Catholic Church was dedicated June 2001. It is in the Diocese of Mandeville and participates in all diocesan activities and typical church celebrations. In addition, the church has an active choir, youth group and Saint Vincent DePaul Society chapter, conducts plays for adults and children, sponsors an annual beautiful yard competition, and has various other celebrations. Mass is celebrated Monday through Thursday at 7:00am and Friday at 5:00 pm; Saturday at 7:00 am and Sunday at 9:00 am.
