Because many community members have knowledge about farming but lack the necessary capital to invest in needed chemicals, seeds, tools and transportation of produce to market, the Holy Spirit Foundation embarked on an agricultural program on the mission property in 2007. Crops are grown to provide income for the Children’s Education Program. Parents and guardians of children in the education program volunteer their time and expertise to the program thereby “giving back” to the Holy Spirit Foundation, contributing to their children’s education and building up a community spirit. There is pride in accomplishment and dedication to hard work, which are important roles to model for the children. Over the years they have grown sorrel, oranges, june plums, peanuts as well as hot peppers.
